Watkins Mill 2002

First order of business, raise the flags.
Troop Hike to Watkins Mill

The troop took to the trail around the lake at Watkins Mill State Park. The walk helped warm us up from the cold wind as we headed towards the Mill.
The textile mill

This is the building where texiles were made. Do you remember why the factory workers could not open the windows, even in the summer time?
Door of opportunity

This door led to the boiler and raw materials wash room. Many people came through this door to work here. Boys and girls, some as young as 12 years old worked at farm complex, earning as much as 50 cents a day. Whole families could put their earnings together, seeking an opportunity to save enough money to build their own home on the property. Over 240 people worked six days a week supporting this business.
Watkins Mill Wal-Mart

Our tour guide pointed out that this store front inside the factory was the WalMart of it's time. People from the area would come and trade goods here. The store would trade raw materials and goods to help support the farm and business for finished texitles dried foods, farm tools and animal supplies.
Multi Troop Campfire

We shared the campground with two other troops. Saturday night we gathered to share jokes, skits, stories, songs and fellowship in the true spirit of scouting.

Camp Shalom

Not every second is doing scouting skills...there is time for fun, like sleding down a hill.
Camp Shalom

Questions? Ok, Ok, which one of you guys ordered the snow to melt?
Camp Shalom

Wow! Look at all these foot prints in the snow.... It looks like a Boy Scout troop came this way!
