Brown Sea 22

This is a special Scout training for those scouts that are in leadership positions. This week long program helps to fully develop scouting skills and leadership abilities. This class was taken at Camp Naish in Bonner Springs, Kansas, July 2003.

Scouts are divided up into patrols. Each Patrol member is given a specific job to do. The buddy system is applied at all times. Each scout wears a uniform that the rank and other insignias are removed. In this way, all patrols and patrol members are on an equal basis. All scouts have been temporarily assigned to Troop 22. They all have the same neckerchiefs and hats. Uniform inspection is part of the program. Evaluation is continuous and awards are given at closing ceremony (above).

Joshua M. receives congratulations from the Brown Sea staff

Three scouts from Troop 61 participated and successfully passed the Brown Sea course, despite extreme summer time temperatures. These scouts learned a new but important 'make believe' word. "Hydranation" was the key element in dealing with the heat. From left to right, Michael L., Joshua M. and Jacob B.
